Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation is proud to announce the first recipient of the Ann K. Johnson Community Health Spirit Award. Colleen M. Brickle, Ed.D., RDH, RF, received this honor in special recognition of her contributions to improving health in Minnesota. This inaugural award is named for Ann K. Johnson, former Executive Director of Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation and Community Affairs Director of Delta Dental of Minnesota.
Having received many incredible nominees that embodied Ms. Johnson’s vision and spirit, the Review Committee selected Dr. Brickle for the $2,500 award to celebrate her inspirational leadership, outstanding sense of collaboration and personal initiative. These traits are highlighted by Dr. Brickle’s calm and skillful relationship-building, and encouragement that has led to significant advancements in the field of oral health and overall health.
Dr. Brickle graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. She earned an M.Ed. in curriculum and instructional design in 1988. She also earned a B.S. from the University of Iowa and a doctorate in health care education from Nova Southeastern University.
For nearly 22 years, Dr. Brickle’s primary role has been as a dental hygiene educator at Normandale Community College. She led the effort there to develop and implement career ladder programs for dental hygienists. In 2008, she was named Dean of Health Sciences at Normandale Community College.
Among many other achievements, Dr. Brickle was instrumental in planning and implementing a community clinic housed in Normandale’s dental hygiene clinic, and serves public program and uninsured patients on a sliding scale basis.
“We are very proud to award Dr. Brickle the Ann K. Johnson Health Spirit Award, as she truly carries on the vision and mission to improve the oral health of our community and has diligently proven her dedication to this mission. We are honored to be able to celebrate Ann Johnson’s life by helping further the great passion and dedication that she fostered for the oral health of Minnesotans,” says Rodney Young, Chief Executive Officer, Delta Dental of Minnesota and Chair, Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation.
