Gary Reeves, D.M.D., Dean of the University
of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry (UMMC SOD), has announced his
retirement effective this fall. A search committee will be formed by UMMC
leadership to identify a successor.
A member of the Medical Center faculty for 30 years
and Dean since May 2012, Dr. Reeves earned his D.M.D. at UMMC SOD in 1984 after
serving four years in the U.S. Army. He had general practice residency training
at UMMC SOD and joined the faculty as an instructor in restorative dentistry in
1985. He has served as professor of care planning and restorative sciences at
UMMC SOD since 1996.
Dr. Reeves served with the Mississippi Army
National Guard, Dental Corps, in Iraq in 2004. When Dr. Butch Gilbert stepped
down as Interim Dean of the School of Dentistry in February 2010, Dr. Reeves

During his tenure, Dr. Reeves oversaw renovations
to the state-of-the-art clinical laboratory on the fourth floor of the School
of Dentistry building and directed the day-to-day functions of the Medical
Center’s robust dentistry educational enterprise.
