Gary Reeves, D.M.D., Dean of the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry (UMMC SOD), has announced his retirement effective this fall. A search committee will be formed by UMMC leadership to identify a successor.

A member of the Medical Center faculty for 30 years and Dean since May 2012, Dr. Reeves earned his D.M.D. at UMMC SOD in 1984 after serving four years in the U.S. Army. He had general practice residency training at UMMC SOD and joined the faculty as an instructor in restorative dentistry in 1985. He has served as professor of care planning and restorative sciences at UMMC SOD since 1996.

Dr. Reeves served with the Mississippi Army National Guard, Dental Corps, in Iraq in 2004. When Dr. Butch Gilbert stepped down as Interim Dean of the School of Dentistry in February 2010, Dr. Reeves agreed to serve as his replacement. He was appointed Dean of the school two years later.

During his tenure, Dr. Reeves oversaw renovations to the state-of-the-art clinical laboratory on the fourth floor of the School of Dentistry building and directed the day-to-day functions of the Medical Center’s robust dentistry educational enterprise.
