The Crowne Plaza Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas, will host the ADEA Fall 2011 Meetings, including the Fourth ADEA Summit on Advanced Dental Education, from October 20-22, 2011. This year's opening plenary on Thursday afternoon will be given by Dr. Milton Chen, Senior Fellow and Executive Director Emeritus of The George Lucas Edcuational Foundation (GLEF), promising a lively question-and-answer session on modern innovations in education. On Friday morning, Dr. Tom Morris, Chairman of the Morris Institute for Human Values, will bring insights of the great thinkers and philosophers into the drama of everyday life with high energy and good humor. Saturday's joint plenary will be an important panel discussion on the revised Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards and their broad implications for the dental education community.
Several meetings will also take place at this event, including the convening of the ADEA Sections of Admissions Officers and Student Affairs and Financial Aid, the ADEA Council of Faculties, the ADEA Council of Sections, the ADEA Council of Students, Residents, and Fellows, and the ADEA Meeting of Academic Deans. The Fourth ADEA Summit on Advanced Dental Education will focus on measuring success in dental education. This meeting will include sessions on measuring success in admissions, a town hall discussion on integrating advanced dental education with ADEA CCI, a look at the big picture of what the revised CODA predoctoral accreditation standards mean to dental education, and a plenary session on “True Success: Art of Achievement in Times of Change” from speaker Tom Morris, Ph.D., Chairman, Morris Institute for Human Values.

The ADEA Sections on Admissions Officers and Student Affairs and Financial Aid (ADEA AFASA) meeting will include a demonstration of CClient and AClient software and a presentation on FERPA related to dental education, as well as a presentation on competencies and foundation knowledge for the new dentist. The meeting will also include town hall discussions, networking opportunities, and other exciting programming.
The ADEA Council of Faculties Interim Meeting will be a forum for networking and collaboration. A plenary session titled “Leadership Starts with Me: The Academic Leader in Dental Education” will be presented by Marc T. Frankel, Ph.D., Senior Consultant at Triangle Associates.
The ADEA Council of Sections Interim Meeting will go over the bylaw revisions and introduce the 2011-14 ADEA Strategic Directions. The meeting will also include two plenary sessions and an introduction to the new CODA Predoctoral Accreditation Standards.
The ADEA Council of Students, Residents, and Fellows Interim Meeting will include presentations on student production and debt, leadership opportunities, and trends in advanced dental education. There will be numerous opportunities for discussion and collaboration in both small groups and larger “town hall” sessions.
The ADEA Meeting of Academic Deans will hold presentations on the integrated National Board Dental Exam, FERPA, Competencies for the New Dentist, CODA standards, exciting plenary sessions, and discussions on issues important to academic deans.
