Two well-respected members of the dental education community passed away in late October.
Roy C. Page, D.D.S., Ph.D, passed away at the age of 80. In a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Page made significant contributions to the field of biomedical research, demonstrating intellectual leadership, a spirit of collaboration, and a record of professional service. He also served as President of the International Association for Dental Research.
Former Dean of the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry, Henry John Van Hassel, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., passed away at the age of 87. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service and interned at the USPHS Hospital in San Francisco, then was stationed at the USPHS Hospitals in Boston and Seattle. In 1984, he was named Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Oregon’s Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland, where he also became a Vice President and served as President of the Oregon Dental Association.
