Dr. Duff Named Assistant Dean for Student Services at University of Michigan
Renee E. Duff, D.D.S., M.S., Clinical Associate Professor in the
Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences and Division of Prosthodontics at the University of Michigan School
of Dentistry (U-M SOD), has been named Assistant Dean for Student Services.
The announcement of her appointment, effective September 15, 2013, was made by the Dean, Peter J. Polverini,
D.D.S, D.M.Sc. “Her rich background and broad experience are major assets in her new role,” says Dr. Polverini.
As Assistant Dean for Student Services, Dr. Duff will work with students and faculty in the U-M’s predoctoral,
dental hygiene, master’s and Ph.D. programs. She will also be an advisor to the dental student Honor Council and
ex-officio member of Academic Review Boards I and II, and work with the school’s director of Multicultural Affairs
to recruit a diverse student body.
Dr. Duff earned three degrees from U-M—a bachelor’s degree (1991), D.D.S. (1996) and a master’s degree in
Prosthodontics (2005). She began teaching at U-M SOD as a part-time faculty member in 1997 and became a full-time
faculty member in 2004.
Dr. Duff is Co-director of the U-M’s Leadership Pathway Program, which is a part of the dental curriculum. She
has also been involved with the school’s Scholars Program in Dental Leadership and has participated in the ADEA’s
Leadership Institute. She has five years of private practice dentistry experience and practices prosthodontics in
the dental faculty associates clinic at U-M SOD.
Dr. Roucka Named Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Southern Illinois
Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU SDM) named Toni M. Roucka, D.D.S., M.A., as
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Dr. Roucka joins SIU SDM from Marquette University School of Dentistry where
she has had extensive experience administering the curriculum in the general dental sciences, including design,
direction and remediation plans for the predoctoral curriculum. She also has experience in faculty development and
Dr. Roucka has been intimately involved in the development of team-based curriculum, critical thinking and
ethics curricula and formal grand rounds programs, among others. She has also been a key leader in the planning and
execution of Marquette’s CODA self-study under the new 2013 Commission guidelines.
Dr. Roucka’s responsibilities will include oversight of the curriculum, student academic and clinical progress,
faculty development, outcomes assessment and accreditation, among others. In addition, she will hold some teaching
