The Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, has an active student community, is engaged in research and embraces IPE. The school offers three programs: an entry-level B.S.D.H., a post-licensure B.S.D.H. and an M.S.D.H. Their impact is seen in their community and abroad.

March 2006, the Riser Elementary and Middle School in West Monroe, LA,
partnered with the University of Louisiana at Monroe Dental
Hygiene Program to
found the Riser School Based Dental Hygiene Clinic. Over the years, over 2,500 children have been treated.

The Indiana
University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne Dental Hygiene program recently joined the rest of the institution in celebrating its 50th anniversary. The program is also marking the start of the new BS-DH with this year's class.

With only 10 students admitted each year, the State Fair Community College (SFCC) Dental Hygiene program in Sedalia, MO, may be a small program, but the value of services they provide to the surrounding community is immeasurable.

Service learning is an integral part of the dental hygiene program at Tunxis Community College with service learning projects in Connecticut, nationwide within the Navajo and Lakota tribes, and internationally.
