2024 Honorees
The honorees were selected by a distinguished panel of judges consisting of the ADEAGies Foundation Board of Trustees.
The 2024 Gies Award recipients are:
INNOVATION
GIES AWARD FOR EMINENCE IN INNOVATION
Alison F. Doubleday, Ph.D.
Dr. Doubleday created the Dental Education Exchange (a multi-institutional faculty learning community) and served as Chair of the ADEA Micro-credentialing Program Oversite
Workgroup.
These activities demonstrate Dr. Doubleday's innovative approach to the design of faculty development experiences for the broader dental education community, bringing new value to the profession and enhancing
dental educators' collective ability to impact future cohorts of oral health professionals.
VISION AND LEADERSHIP
GIES AWARD FOR EMINENCE IN VISION AND LEADERSHIP
Nader A. Nadershahi, D.D.S., M.B.A., Ed.D.
As a promising young dental student at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (Dugoni School), Nader Nadershahi achieved
academic excellence and was a leader in his class. His vision, leadership and contributions to the Dugoni School were demostrated as he moved through academic leadership positions, culminating with his appointment as Dean and Vice Provost
in 2016.
Dr. Nadershahi, through his capacity for effective organizational leadership, professionalism, demonstrated integrity, and promotion of humanism and ethical behavior, has contributed and lifted the profession. He led the
Dugoni School's curriculum reform, the largest fundraising campaign in the school's 127-year history ($69.2 million), and the successful navigation through the COVID-19 pandemic.
ACHIEVEMENT
GIES AWARD FOR EMINENCE IN ACHIEVEMENT
Santa Fe Group
The Santa Fe Group was founded by five dental educators, scientists and leaders, growing to include additional thought leaders to advance oral health care in the United States,
and has been a leading voice and catalyst for change in oral health for more than 25 years.
Evidence of the Santa Fe Group's exemplary achievement includes the launch of a program to increase access to oral
health care and the 2004 Salon on dental education reform, which led to development of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education that resulted in new competencies and changes to accreditation standards.
