The UAFS Department of Dental Hygiene 2018-19 academic year included a variety of community service-learning activities. Students and faculty worked together to extend learning experiences outside of the classroom and into the community.
Dental hygiene alumni from VCU SOD were recognized at a reunion in April. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the program, “Nifty Fifty” awards were presented to honor peer-nominated alumni for their commitment to the profession, to the community and to the school.
COD Increasing Availability of Dental Care by Expanding Continuing Education
UTHSC COD is preparing to increase the number of registered dental hygienists and dental assistants it certifies to perform some restorative or prosthetic functions. The goal is to increase availability and accessibility of dental care in the community and across the state.
Program Encourages Native American Students to Pursue Dentistry
Nearly 10,500 students applied to attend dental school in the United States this fall. Just 16 of those students are Native American. The Native American Pre-Dental Student Gateway Program aims to reduce the alarming disparity by introducing Native American students to careers in dentistry.
