Dental Dean Position and ADAT Position Vacancies on Dental Admission Testing Committee
The Council on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL) is seeking nominations for a Dental Dean position vacancy and an ADAT position vacancy on its Dental Admission Testing (DAT) Committee.
The committee is a standing committee of CDEL responsible for setting direction, establishing policy and overseeing research related to the Dental Admission Test (DAT), Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT), and the Admission Test for Dental Hygiene (ATDH). The committee members review content domains, test specifications and examinee aggregate performance information for these admission tests.
The dental dean position vacancy is a one-year term with possible reappointment for a maximum of four years. To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Serve as the dean of a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation;
- Have knowledge, experience and interest in current admission practices and matters; and
- Nominees who are dentists must be members of the ADA.
The ADAT position vacancy is a one-year term with possible reappointment for a maximum of four years. To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- An individual that is using the ADAT examination in the selection process of candidates for admission to his/her program; and
- Nominees who are dentists must be members of the ADA.

Specialty Dentist/Practitioner and Specialty Dentist/Educator Vacancies on Recognition Committee
The Council on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL) is seeking nominations for a specialty dentist/practitioner vacancy and a specialty dentist/educator vacancy on its Committee on Recognition of Specialties and Interest Areas in General Dentistry (Recognition Committee). The Recognition Committee is a standing committee of CDEL responsible for matters related to the recognition of dental specialties, specialty certifying boards and areas of interest in general dentistry. Specifically, this Recognition Committee proposes to the CDEL new and/or amendment to ADA policies related to recognition. The Recognition Committee also is tasked to review applications for specialty recognition as posted by the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards and recommend what action if any CDEL should take during the comment period.
The specialty dentist/practitioner vacancy is a one-year term with possible reappointment for a maximum of four years. To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- be a current ADA member;
- devote the majority of time to dental practice as a specialist (practitioner member only);
- be able to devote the necessary time to Recognition Committee activities (two to three one-hour conference calls annually plus two hours of preparation prior to meeting);
- have familiarity with issues and ADA policies related to the specialty recognition process;
- demonstrate willingness to abide by ADA policies related to conflict of interest and confidentiality;
- demonstrate willingness to be objective in the consideration of matters reviewed by the Recognition Committee;
- have sufficient expertise to analyze survey data received in conjunction with specialty recognition applications; and
- have access to the internet and email.
The specialty dentist/educator vacancy is a one-year term with possible reappointment for a maximum of four years. To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- be a current ADA member;
- devote the majority of time to education/research; have a record of scholarly activity, including publications in refereed journals (educator/research member only);
- have a record of service within a university and with a professional dental organization (educator/researcher member only);
- be able to devote the necessary time to Recognition Committee activities (two to three one-hour conference calls annually plus two hours of preparation prior to meeting);
- have familiarity with issues and ADA policies related to the specialty recognition process;
- demonstrate willingness to abide by ADA policies related to conflict of interest and confidentiality;
- demonstrate willingness to be objective in the consideration of matters reviewed by the Recognition Committee;
- have sufficient expertise to analyze survey data received in conjunction with specialty recognition applications; and
- have access to the internet and email.
