As advocates for children’s oral health, the AAPD promotes evidence-based policies and clinical guidelines; educates and informs policymakers, parents and guardians, and other health care professionals; fosters research; and provides continuing professional education for pediatric dentists and general dentists who treat children.
Pediatric Dentistry
Good oral health care begins in childhood. As a pediatric dentist, you have the opportunity not only to treat children for a range of conditions and diseases related to oral health, from cavities to dental caries, but also to educate them and their parents about why dental care is so important.
If that sounds like fun, then consider specializing in dental pediatrics. Training programs take from 24 to 36 months. There are currently 82 programs in the United States.
