University of Bridgeport Fones School of Dental Hygiene Remains on the Cutting Edge of Technology With the Addition of 3D Imaging, Intraoral Scanning
The University of Bridgeport Fones School of Dental Hygiene has added the DEXIS OP 3D EX/DTX to clinical care in its on-campus clinic and to its dental hygiene education program.
“The CBCT imaging training is incorporated into dental hygiene undergraduate education to enhance student knowledge regarding patient radiation safety and proper patient positioning techniques to ensure optimal diagnostic images,” said Ashley Spaziante, M.S.H.A., RDH, Radiology Coordinator at the University of Bridgeport Fones School of Dental Hygiene. “The dental hygiene student will significantly benefit from 3D imaging of oral structures, permitting students to evaluate and visualize nerve pathways, anatomical features, periodontal disease and early signs of pathology.”

In addition, the Itero Flex Intraoral Scanner will be used in clinic and dental material lab.
“We will be introducing the iTero scanner in Dental Materials to ensure students are prepared for the workforce by introducing them to new technology utilized in dental offices every day,” stated Amanda Sargent, M.S., RDH, faculty member for the Fones Dental Materials Lecture and Lab. “The scanner will also be used by the second-year students in the clinic for Senior Smiles patients and those requiring further treatment.”
Advanced imaging technology such as CBCT and intraoral scanning is becoming the standard of care in dental practices. Fones graduates will enter the workforce with valuable experience with cutting edge technology, which will benefit both their patients and workplace.
