The Ohio State University COD Elevates Student Education and Patient Care by Integrating the Solea® All-tissue Dental Laser Into Clinical Simulation Training

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry (OSU COD) has collaborated with Convergent Dental to introduce the Solea® All-tissue Dental Lasers into its clinical simulation training for fourth-year dental students starting in the spring 2025 semester. These advanced lasers will also be utilized in the Ohio State Dental Faculty Practice.

The Solea® All-tissue Laser is a 9.3-micron CO2 laser that allows for anesthesia-free, blood-free and pain-free procedures in hard and soft tissue. Convergent Dental, which manufactures this comprehensive dental practice solution, works with dentists to help them elevate and grow their practices through improved clinical effectiveness, efficiency, patient experience and procedural expansion.

“The college of dentistry is committed to providing the highest standard of care at our contemporary dental clinics outfitted with cutting-edge technology,” said Carroll Ann Trotman, B.D.S., M.A., M.S., Dean of the OSU COD. “We are looking forward to providing enhanced clinical care and training to benefit our students and to ensure they are fully prepared for the future of dentistry.”

“Convergent Dental’s vision is to drive the broad-based adoption of Solea. We are dedicated to collaborating with institutions that want to offer innovative technology that enables superior outcomes and experiences for patients, practitioners and dental practices. We are excited to partner with The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Dean Trotman to introduce Solea laser dentistry to the next generation of students and beyond,” said Robert L. Gershon, CEO of Convergent Dental.

Leonardo Nassani, D.M.D., M.B.A., Assistant Dean for Digital Dentistry and Advanced Technology at OSU COD, has led the curriculum update for students. “By embracing leading-edge instruments like CO2 lasers, we empower our students to provide more precise, efficient and patient-centered care in their career, ensuring that they are well prepared to meet the evolving needs of patient care in the future,” he said. The curriculum update will emphasize laser safety education for students.
