2024 ADEA Deans’ Conference
Demonstrating Success
How do we define and leverage success? What is our role as leaders in enabling success? Join us for Demonstrating Success―the 2024 ADEA Deans’ Conference―this Nov. 10-12 in Coronado, CA. Gain insights from fellow dental deans and experts from inside and outside or academic dentistry on navigating what it truly means to be successful through assessment, perseverance and so much more.
On day one, keynote speaker Mark Allen, Founder of Mark Allen Sports and named “The Greatest Endurance Athlete of All Time” by ESPN, gives his address: Clarify, Adjust, Complete: The Art of Ironman Success. Mr. Allen shares lessons learned from his personal journey of competing and losing in the IRONMAN World Championship in his first six attempts. How do we create certainty in an uncertain environment? How can we learn from our defeats to ultimately succeed? From where do we draw strength when we want to quit? Mr. Allen address these difficult questions and more, reminding us that whether you are a leader of a large enterprise or an elite athlete, success is a team sport.
On the heels of the 2024 presidential election, we will also delve into what success looks like through a political lens. Electoral Success: Implications of the 2024 Presidential Election for Dental Education provides perspectives from political scientists, higher education advocates and oral health educators to inform our thinking about the outcomes of the election and anticipate the short- and longer-term impacts on success within institutions and programs.
On our final day together, we take a deep dive into student success through Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). This session explores the implementation of EPAs in medicine, the development of the EPA framework in dentistry and strategies for implementation through the collaborative work of the North Carolina dental deans.
Along with ample joint networking events and key sessions throughout the conference, the conference includes select deans-only sessions, the ADEA New Deans’ Workshop, and ADEA Council of Deans Business Meetings. Registration is open to all academic dental deans and their second faculty guests.
