InternationalFor the second consecutive year, fewer foreign students are enrolling in America’s colleges and universities. New enrollment dropped 6.6% between the 2017-18 and 2016-17 academic years. This follows a 3.3% decrease in 2016-17 from the previous year. While the strength of the U.S. dollar may play a role, some experts attribute the decline to more restrictive immigration policies implemented by the Trump Administration. A State Department official, however, told Reuters that “The U.S. Department of State is committed to facilitating the legitimate travel to the United States of individuals who want to study in U.S. academic institutions,” and said it was unwarranted to only blame the political environment.
